Spain are in their tenth World Cup finals, but have never reached the final; and only made it to the semis way back in 1950.

They have been in the last six World Cups, but even at home in 1982, they failed to get past the second round, yet they are still a seeded side.

Real Madrid and Barcelona fair much better than the national side in cup competitions.

Spain fell to Nigeria in the first game, and even though they thrashed Bulgaria 6-1 in the last game they failed to qualify. Spain didn't score against Paraguay, who then had the good fortune to play a reserve Nigerian side in their last game.
