Rather than illustrate
another article with some of my photographs, I thought I'd let the pictures that no one
takes be the feature this week.
We're going on a real virtual journey, live
around the World. If a picture says a thousand words, we're going to let the Webcams talk
you to death.
It was a hard choice, because there are
hundreds if not thousands of pictures being beamed through Cyberspace every few minutes.
These top sites are probably among the most
important for world travellers:
Boardwalk:
Take a trip to Bethany Beach in Delaware without getting sand between your toes.
Firenze:
One of the jewels in the Italian crown of culture is now beamed around the world.
Frankfurt:
See the Dax. Trading Hours at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange are from 8.30
a.m. to 5.00 p.m. (Frankfurt time). After that the final trading figures from the last
trading day will be shown.
Hong
Kong Cams:
Hong Kong Tourism Board's Web cams capture some of the most splendid scenes of Hong Kong
from a variety of different angles, 24 hours a day. There are three Web cams -- Victoria
Harbour Cam, Causeway
Bay Cam and Victoria
Park Cam -- displaying updated images of the City of Life.
KarachiCam:
The first and only Webcam in the region; that we know of.
Krakow:
The page is in Polish, but it really doesn't matter. Krakow is a must see if you visit
Poland, and if you can't then take a peek from your desk top.
Mount
Fuji:
The view of Mt. Fuji from the top floor of The Centre for Information Biology building,
located in Mishima, Japan.
Oslo:
The Karl Johan gets updated every quarter of an hour, and the archives are easy to access
by drop-down menus.
Oxford Circus:
The centre of London is updated every five minutes; red double-deckers and traffic jams.
Rockefeller Cam:
I especially like the New York Rockefeller Center in the winter, when you can see the ice
skaters.
Samui Cam:
Thailand's first Internet live cam is located at Chaweng beach, on the island of Koh
Samui.
Storm Cam:
Darwin is a great place to be at the start of the wet season. People
drive to the coast especially to watch nature's light show. An active desktop storm
warning would be the ultimate feature here.
Switzerland:
Topin offer magnificent Alpine views through a variety of weather cams on lakes and peaks
around the country.
Times Square:
You might like to view this one on New Year's Eve -- just nip into the archives.
And last but not
least.....
Western
Wall Cam:
A view of the Western Wall in Jerusalem. Women pray on the right.
