Visiting Amador County
Amador City, Ione, Jackson, Plymouth, Sutter Creek.
Amador County is the
only county in the state named after a native Californian - Jose Maria Amador, a wealthy
ranchero before the gold rush; whose great ranch covered much of what is now Amador
Valley, near Danville.
The county seat of Amador County is Jackson;
incorporated as a city in 1905.
Amador City
Amador City is a charming
gold rush town located just minutes from the Shenandoah Valley wine region along historic
Highway 49, in California's Gold Country.
One of Californias smallest incorporated cities, with a
population of just over 200 residents, Amador City is a little city with a lot to offer.
Ione
Ione is nestled in the
beautiful oak covered foothills of the Gold Country. Residents and visitors to Ione enjoy
a gentle climate, a pastoral setting with oak trees and farmlands, and a family-oriented
atmosphere of a medium sized town.
Plymouth
Plymouth is nestled in the
foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range; on Historic Highway 49, just south of
Placerville. Every year Plymouth hosts the Amador
County Fair.
Sutter Creek
Sutter Creek is named
after a saw-mill owner in Coloma; where the first 'Mother Lode' gold was found, in January
of 1848.
Sutter Creek Inn:
Located between Yosemite National Park and Lake Tahoe, in the heart of California's Gold
Country, the Sutter Creek Inn is eight minutes from the Shenandoah Valley Wine Country and
close to up-country skiing and hiking.
