Butte County, the 'Land
of Natural Wealth and Beauty' was one of the original California counties; founded on
February 18th, 1850.
Its name is derived from the Marysville or Sutter Buttes, which lay
within the boundaries of the county when it was created.
The county seat of Butte County is Oroville.
Biggs
Biggs is a primarily
residential community that has maintained the small town character one might envision for
such a community of fifty years past.
Chico
Chico was founded in 1860 by
General John Bidwell and incorporated in 1872.
Chico Chamber:
The Visitor Center is located within the Chico Chamber of Commerce downtown at 441 Main
Street (corner of 5th Street and Main, inside Municipal Building).
Gridley
Gridley is growing and
changing, becoming livelier, more active, and more festive than before. You can see it in
the historic buildings being restored to their former glory and you can see it in the new
storefronts blossoming throughout the area.

Oroville
Lake Oroville is one of the
largest reservoirs in California; formed by the Oroville Dam, across the Feather River.

Oroville is proud of its five museums, including the Bolt Antique Tool Museum and the
Chinese Temple. From the historic downtown district to the picturesque mountain areas,
Oroville has plenty to offer its visitors.
Paradise
Paradise is a short drive
from the Bay Area and Sacramento; through orchards, past roadside fruit stands, up through
the oaks, and into the pines.

Perched atop the Ridge, above the Bay Area heat and fog, this picturesque Sierra foothill
community is rich in history, culture, and natural beauty.
