Around Iran

Gorgán

Gorgán, in northern Iran, has good air, rail and road access to most larger cities in Iran. Entering or leaving by land between Iran and Turkmenistan is open to both Iranian and foregien travellers.

Hormuz

Isfahan

Mashhad

Mashhad (mah-shahd), meaning place of martyrdom, is the capital and largest city in Khorasan province. It is also Iran's holiest city, located 850 kilometers north-east of Tehran; near the border with Turkmenistan.

Masouleh

Located some 56km south-west of Rasht and 25km west of Fooman, Masouleh (1,050 meters above sea level) is one of the most beautiful and traditional villages in Gilan Province. It's uniqueness is it's terraced style on the mountain and the lack of motor vehicles.

Qom

Qom is located some 120km Southwest of Tehran. Sometimes considered the religious capital of the Islamic Republic, Qom hosts the tomb of Hazrat Masumeh, sister of Imam Reza. Many religious schools, dedicated to Islamic teaching, are located around the Hazrat Masumeh Sanctuary.

Tabriz

Tabriz was founded during the Sassanid period and is located 597 km north-west of Tehran.

Tehran

Tehran has a unique fascinating character. It lies on an incline some 1,200 meters above sea level at the southern foothills of the mighty Alborz mountain range. Visit the French-style palaces in northern Tehran belonging to the former Shah of Iran and the museums to get more information on the former Persian Empire and Rersian heritage.

Shiraz

Shiraz is often regarded as one of the most attractive of all Iranian cities; situated 919 Km south of Tehran.
