Located in the western Pacific Ocean, Palau,
includes the principal islands of Koror, Babelthuap, Arakabesan, Malakal, and Peleliu.
There are also five very small islands, known as the Southwest
Islands.
Some of the islands that make up Palau are volcanic, others are coral.
Koror is the
capital of Palau, while Babelthuap, to the north-east, is the largest island.
Palau's
early history is still largely veiled in mystery. Probably the most noticeable aspect
of Palauan culture is the
people's connection with the sea.
