Upstate New York

When yellow cabs and pollution start running you down in New York City, escape to the picturesque lakes of the Adirondack and Catskill mountains.

The beautiful Finger Lakes have a hand in the New York picture too, and there's a Thousand Islands dressing up the St Lawrence River.

If that's not enough, you can feast yourself on the gorges of the Genesee River or listen to the Niagara Falls.

Nearer New York City, there are of course the beaches of Long Island to fall back on.

Once you've seen the natural side of her, you'll love New York.

The Catskills

Just 90 minutes from NYC is a region of great countryside, rich heritage, and excellent small-store shopping.

Around New York State

New York was named after the Duke of York, in the 1660s, and is more than just the city. Upstate New York is a heavenly tribute to nature.

States neighbouring New York are: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Massachusetts and Connecticut. New York state also borders Canada.

Adirondacks:
Wild and civilised by turns, the Adirondacks are an immense blue and green space in which to relax, play and plot an adventure. This region in Northern New York contains 3,000 ponds and lakes, 2,000 miles of hiking trails, more four-star resorts than any other destination in the state, nearly 100 campgrounds and, of course, the Adirondack Mountains.

Black Lake:
One of the most widely known fishing and vacation spots in New York State, Black Lake is a natural lake that encompasses an area of almost 11,000 acres, stretching over 20 miles. Over 60 miles of shoreline combined with numerous islands, offers the angler all kinds of ideal fish habitats from rocky points and shoals, sandbars, weed beds, shallows and deep water, up to 40 feet.

Lake George and its many surrounding lakes and rivers are famous as a wonderful setting for all kinds of boating. Lake George is also a memorable place full of diverse attractions that many generations have enjoyed, and will continue to for years to come.
