Continuing on from the French
Riviera, the Italian Riviera (Riviera ligure) is the coastal strip around the Gulf of
Genoa (Golfo di Genova) from the Ventimiglia border to just south of La Spezia.
While many consider Genoa to be the centre of the Italian Riviera -
geographically it might be - others are more inclind to focus on the beaches from San Remo
to Finale Ligue.
West of Genoa the coast is known as the Riviera di Ponente (setting
sun); while the coast on the other side is referred to as the Riviera di Levante (rising
sun). This is where you'll find the more mountainous areas of Portofino and Cinque Terre.
