China's airports are not only vital for domestic travel but also play a significant role in international aviation. With ongoing expansions and improvements, these airports are set to continue their growth and importance in global air traffic.
The Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), a major hub for Air China and China Southern Airlines, is 26km from the centre of Beijing and is served by a government-run shuttle-bus.
Many hotels in Beijing also run airport shuttle bus services; although most people prefer to get there by taxi, which is often more convenient and the fares are reasonable.
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) is located 18km south-west of Chengdu city centre.
With two terminals, facilitating both domestic and international flights, this is the largest airport in South-west China and fourth-busiest in the country.
Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU) is one of the two international airports serving Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, in South-western China.
It was officially opened in 2021 to accommodate the increasing air traffic that Chengdu Shuangliu Airport could no longer handle, due to its capacity limits.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) is one of the two major international airports serving Shanghai and is located approximately 30km east of the city centre.
Opened in 1999, the airport occupies a vast area of 40 square kilometres and is operated by the Shanghai Airport Authority.
Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport (SZX) is a major airport located in the Bao'an District of Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.
Situated 32km north-west of downtown Shenzhen, the airport serves as an important hub for the rapidly growing city.
Ürümqi Diwopu International Airport (URC) is located in the Diwopu township of the Xinshi district, 16km north-west of downtown Ürümqi.
It serves as a significant hub for China Southern Airlines and is a focus city for Hainan Airlines.
Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY) is an international airport located 35km north-west of Xi'an city centre, which is the capital of Shaanxi province in Northwest China.
It serves as a major hub for the region and is the largest airport in North-west China, ranking as the seventh largest airport in the country.
